Yay! I finished an actual piece of art!
This bird is the extinct Hawaii ʻōʻō, a magnificent bird which was hunted to extinction by both Europeans (who also caged the birds in large numbers) and the Native Islanders for its magnificent yellow plumes. Killed by the thousands, the ʻōʻō was last sighted in 1934. The final breath of a species caused by human hands is always a sad thing, and I did attempt to portray this above.
I got the inspiration for this while I was reading the wonderful book A Gap in Nature by Flannery and Schouten. Check it out!
I got the big blood smear from Clipartbest.com, as I was sadly unsuccessful in making my own (does anyone know of a good tutorial for drawing blood? I couldn't find one.)
Speaking of blood, do you think I should classify this as containing mature content? It's a lot of blood, but it is unrealistic and (hopefully) everyone on this site is 13 or older, so I was hesitant to block it off. There is probably only going to be two people (you know who you are) seeing this anyway, but I digress.

now that i know the context, this piece is
really good and really sad. (also, you did
kind of a bad blood splatter. how do i know
what blood splatters look like? past experience.
if you don't want to open your own/someone
else's veins, then maybe try putting some food
dye in water and then throwing it on the walls/
floors/a table?)
